![]() | Rogue BiographyRogue and Remy met not long after Rogue had returned to the X-Men after taking a sabbatical to deal with the consequences of her powers. Both coming from the Southern States, and having a mysterious past that they were unwilling to share, the pair of them hit it off almost immediatly. After some initial flirting on Remy's part, and Rogue coming to the realisation that he wasn't concerned about the fact that he couldn't touch her, they began to date and soon fell deeply in love. Their relationship was never a smooth one, even in the beginning, and but it survived a visit from Remy's wife Belladonna, Sabretooth revealing fragments of his and Remy's shared past, Rogue's blindness and many life and death situations intact, all the time with the pair unable to touch. Their first kiss came when the M'Krann crystal was about to destroy the universe. Knowing it would be the last chance they ever had the lovers threw caution to the wind and kissed. However the crystal wave did not destroy the world, due to the timeline shifting and being reset, and Remy was put into a coma by Rogue's kiss, while she absorbed a large part of his memories and dark secrets. Rogue left the X-Men and went on a road trip, unconsciously following a similar trip that Remy had made years ago, and when Remy awoke he followed her, knowing exactly where she would be. He confronted her in a derelict theatre in Seattle, where she revealed that she didn't know exactly what he was hiding, only that it was something so terrible that it was still haunting him. Remy wouldn't tell her outright what his secrets were, instead offering to let her absorb his memories and show her, but she declined and told him that she couldn't trust or love him before flying away. She later returned to the X-Men with Joseph in tow and eventually started to date him, despite her continuing attraction to Remy. This caused a lot of tension between the three of them which erupted in physical violence more than once. Remy however did save Joseph's life a few times, and seemed to be willing to accept the realtionship between him and Rogue for her sake, even if he wasn't happy about it. On returning from Shi'ar space after aiding them the small group of X-Men and the bounty hunters Spat and Grovel, who were looking for Remy, were captured by Magneto's Nanny Robot in one of his citadel caverns in Antarctica. Left somewhat alone and without their powers, which Nanny had negated, Remy and Rogue had a chance to talk and reconciled their differences, finally able to express their love for each other for the first time physically, although it is not known to what extent. When his past with Sinister was revealed in the Trial in Antarctica, Rogue stayed behind to rescue him from being killed in the falling wreckage of the citadel. She took him outside of the base, away from Psylocke who was teleporting everybody else to safety, into the Antarctic cold only to recant her love for and trust in him, telling him that he had no home with her or the X-Men. She then left him in the snow, saying that although she wouldn’t leave him to die in the collapsing base she would give him the choice whether he lived or died out in the snow. Remy survived, thanks to New Son, and eventually rejoined the X-Men upon Storm's insistance. However upon returning to the mansion he decided that he needed to determine where he stood and decided to stay in the boathouse for awhile. Rogue was also not sure where they stood and alternated between flirting shamelessly with him and giving him the cold shoulder. Amid a fight with a self-proclaimed goddess Kali, who's 'mission' it was to kill lovers, he and Rogue managed to talk through some of their issues. However the biggest issue, the fact that Remy still loved her, remained unresolved due the green mist parasite he had picked up in Antarctica. She revealed herself to Remy as a female entity that only he could see, and warned him that he belonged to her and she would hurt anybody who got in the way of that. Remy held Rogue at arms length because of this, although he longed for nothing more than to take her in his arms. He even rescued her from the X-Cutioner, who was using her as bait, knowing that his target would come to rescue her. Eventually the green mist parasite was expelled from Remy and he was able to get closer to Rogue again, who by this time had learnt what Remy had gone through while trying to survive in Antartica, although between their duties as X-Men and his debt to New Son they had very little time together. Things came to a head again when, using a device that Remy had aquired for him, Xavier set up an elaborate psychodram with the help of Jean Grey and Cable, which involved the X-Men being pushed to the limits both physically and emotionally to reveal who the traitor was. One by one the X-Men were eliminated and removed from the psychodrama, something which the other participants saw as their death. Remy was one of the last two to be eliminated. Rogue however was eliminated before Remy, and this lead to a very emotional scene in which Remy believed that he held a dying Rogue in his arms and confessed his love to her once again. Not long after this, with the help of Sekmeht Conoway and the Mengo Brothers, Remy and Courier headed for Latveria and Dr Doom’s citadel to use the time portal that was present there. Later Rogue managed to rescue Sek and the Mengo's only to find that Remy and Courier were still in the past. To get back to the present Remy had to have his powers increased back to their full potential and this allowed him to touch Rogue, although it got to the stage where he began to give her static shocks on contact due to not being entirely in control. This, and the fact that Remy wasn't willing to tell Rogue all of what was going on in his life, caused them to argue, and for the first time Remy broke it off with Rogue, telling her that he would be waiting for her when she decided to let her life move on like his had. It wasn't long after this that Rogue and Remy each took command of their own teams, and faced each other seemingly on opposite sides of a confrontation with the Goth slavers. Remy asked Rogue to trust him and for once she did, allowing the deception that Remy's team was part of to go ahead and eventually both teams were able to take down the Goth. It is unclear when but Remy and Rogue became a couple once again sometime after this. After recruiting Sage, Rogue, Storm, Thunderbird, Psylocke and Bishop for a team to go after Destiny's Diaries, Storm asked Remy to join the team with them. However Rogue answered for him, saying that he should be left out of it, worrying that he could be hurt since her powers were out of control and making her a threat to everyone around her. Persuaded by her argument Remy agreed to stay behind. Remy however didn't stay idle but instead went hunting for the Madripoor Set gemstones, which led him to encounter Storm's team in Sydney where he was accused of the murder of one of Australia's crime lords. Both Remy and Rogue, who had located her lover in order to protect him, were captured and tortured by the Triad before getting free and clearing Remy's name. Almost immediatly after this Remy was abducted with the Set and used to open an interdimentional portal. When Rogue located him he begged her to kill him but she refused, hoping that somehow she could save him, and instead they were both skewered by Vargas. Remy almost died at this point and if it hadn'd been for Rogue slipping into the astral plane and pulling his soul back from the gates of heaven he would have. This ultimatly caused the loss of both of their powers, and they eventually left the team to persue a normal life together. Their normal life didn't last for long and even depowered they helped Storm's team defeat Elias Bogan in the town of Valle Soleada. Rogue then asked Sage to 'jumpstart' Remy's power so that they were active once again, although she declined the same technique for her own, wanting to keep the ability to touch her lover instead. However her powers returned on their own and they both returned to the mansion only to be assigned to Havok's team. It is clear that losing the ability to touch strained their relationship, however they both perservered. In their first mission with Havok's team Remy was blinded when a partially charged card detonated in his face. Rogue stayed by his side, but they both became frustrated and Remy in his anger and pain ended up lashing out at her, verbally for the most part. Rogue briefly left the team to have some time away from Remy, however he tracked her down and they eventually reconcilled. Rogue then asked Sage to 'jumpstart' Remy again, which healed his eyes. Their relationship was strained once again when the team faced Golgotha, an alien entity which bought forth their biggest fears and insecurities. Remy told Rogue to leave him for Logan, believing that the two had always held an attraction for each other, and they did indeed kiss, although Rogue managed to break it off before any permanent harm was done. In an effort to reconcile their relationship properly Rogue and Remy decided to get professional help, which came in the form of Emma Frost, the X-Men’s own sex-therapist. She advised them to sleep in the same room, to gain some intimacy, but also she promised to help the couple with telepathic therapy. The telepath took both of them to the astral plane where they could share some intimacy without making any actual physical contact. This should have helped them however, due to all their psychic baggage, they couldn’t safely touch even there. When they tried Remy’s astral form was drained the same way his physical body would have had they actually touched, and this led to further problems between them. Another problem arose in Foxx, an attractive new student at the mansion, who was attempting to seduce Remy. Foxx was revealed to actually be Mystique, who had created this identity to make her adoptive daughter understand that she couldn’t be happy with a man like Remy. Although he had resisted all of Foxx’s attempts to seduce him the damage was already done since the attraction that he had felt for her showed in the telepathic counselling sessions with Emma Frost. After Remy successfully resisted her, Mystique reverted to her true form and offered him something more difficult to refuse, transforming into Rogue and offered him a physical relationship. Whether or not anything happened is uncertain, but Rogue eventually discovered her mother's presence in the school and what she had offered Remy. This led to the rift that Mystique was hoping for and allowed her to introduce Pulse, a mutant thief whose powers could negate Rogue’s. Upon the return of Apocalypse Remy was voluntarily transformed into the one of the villain’s Horseman, Death, intending to insinuate himself into Apocalypse's ranks in order to protect the X-Men from his eventual betrayal. Remy miscalculated however, as the transformation process warped his mind more than he could handle. Despite becoming twisted almost beyond recognition Remy retained a large portion of his former self, stating to Apocalypse "I'm both Death and Gambit". He also remembered his love for Rogue, finding himself unable to kill her during their battle and finding that the Gambit portion of himself came closer to the surface when he remembered her. In the last battle between the X-Men and Apocalypse Remy was knocked unconscious and was taken by the former X-Man Sunfire, now also a Horseman, to a Buddhist temple in Japan. Here Sunfire told him that, like the Buddha, they had to destroy all bonds to their former lives to be able to move on, and they felt they had to take Polaris, also a Horseman, with them. Remy in an attempt to destroy all of the bonds to his old self tried to kill Rogue and he would have been successful had it not been for Pulse who neutralized his powers. Remy and Sunfire then left the mansion. Rogue however has not given up hope on Remy, although she has refused to go after him, believing it best that he come back to her in his own time. |
