French form of the Roman cognomen Remigius, which was derived from Latin remigis "oarsman". Saint Rémy was a 5th-century bishop who was supposedly responsible for the baptism of Clovis, king of the Franks.

Interesting Fact - In Remy's first appearance he threw throwing spikes instead of cards. He was also shown throwing spikes in the eXiles series, when the Exiles visited the Age of Apocalypse world. It is unknown why Remy changed to using playing cards, although there are theories (see Fan Theories for more)


Interesting Fact - Remy was first shown charging objects that he was holding with his eyes instead of his hands, the charge arcing between his eyes and whatever he happened to be holding and concentrating on at the time. This was only present in the first couple of issues that he featured in, before he began charging things on contact.

Interesting Fact - According to the discussion that Belladonna and Rogue had when they were in New Orleans, Remy has a mole of some sort somewhere rather embarrassing.


Interesting Fact - According to X-Men Legends, game scripted by former X-Men writers, Remy uses the bo-staff primarily because it is the favoured weapon of Jean-Luc LeBeau, his father.

Interesting Fact - In Gambit (2nd Series) #5, Remy is shown wearing a Hong Kong Phooey sweatshirt while he is in his "happy place".


Interesting Fact - Remy is a big fan of both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Star Trek.


Interesting Fact - The fact that a microwave signal can trigger premature discharge of Remy's biokinetic charge is revealed in X-Men #83 as part of the Xavier Protocols.


Interesting Fact - In the Ghost Rider/X-Men crossover, Ghost Rider doesn't react negatively to Remy as he would to anyone who was evil or wicked.


Interesting Fact - In AoA, when the X-Men buried their dead, they created a tombstone for Gambit saying "Luck will always be on his side."


Interesting Fact - When Gambit was first with the X-Men he flirted with every woman on the team, and he managed to tempt Jean Grey, leading her to comment in front of Cyclops "I must admit, that as infuriating and arrogant as Gambit can be, those eyes, that grin, that body, it takes a girl's breath away."
