From CBR X-Position:
1) You have said before that the Gambit heritage line from “Blood of Apocalypse” would probably be explored this year. Is that still in the works?
It is, yeah. But I don't know how far we'll move that along in the second arc, which is where Gambit comes back into play. It might have to wait a little longer before you get a clear answer.
2) With Gambit having a role in “Legacy,” are there any plans to use Courier, Fontanelle or Belladonna?
Sadly, no. I was thinking at one stage about a plotline that would have brought Fontanelle in, but it opened some cans of worms that I couldn't deal with in the framework I was trying to set up. We will be seeing someone very closely associated with her, though.
5) The “Messiah CompleX” crossover payoffs on the plotlines including Mystique, Rogue and Gambit were some of my favorite moments in the story. Are you generally pleased with the outcome of that aspect of the story? Will Rogue assume the mantle of leadership again in the near future?
I'm pleased that we got such a big stage, as it were, for the climax of those story elements – we'd spent a lot of time and thought in setting them up. I feel bad that Rogue was off the table for such a lot of the big action, because I know a lot of Rogue fans took that hard.
There are some more ramifications to be played out, and I'm weaving them into ‘Legacy.’ After that, look for Rogue to be in the spotlight again. Yeah, I know, I'm ducking the "leadership" part of that question – it's tied up with some other things that I can't talk about yet..
*******************************************
So.... thats why they're keeping the legacy name. It'll continue to be about legacies and pasts into the second arc and probably the third. Gambit's "noble heritage" will be explored. Thats one serious can of worms that they're opening up IMO. Should be interesting to say the least.

Ladies and Gentleman... The mother of all Gambit retcons has arrived, and its coming in June. What did Xavier know about Gambit joining the Marauders? WTH did Shaw and Rogue have to do with it?
Prepare yourself, for once again, we delve into the darkest chapter of Gambit's life. Hopefully its entertaining and true to character (and I mean character at the time {17-20 year old Gambit}, not character today).

02/01/08: News Update
First of all HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all. And now the first Gambit news for 08:
From CBR X-Position Week 32 and Mike Carey:
Mike, I'm going to kick things off with a few questions of my own. A recent description of "X-Men: Legacy" indicated that the book would focus on Rogue and Gambit. Can you elaborate at all?
It's both true and misleading. The character at the center of the book is someone else entirely -- it's Professor X, in fact -- but Rogue and Gambit will appear in a way that moves their relationship and their personal journeys forward very significantly. As readers of adjectiveless "X-Men" will know, I've sent Rogue along a traumatic and life-changing path. We see the fruition of that in "Messiah CompleX," but the consequences are still to be played out and it's in "Legacy" first and foremost that we see this happen.
Well at least we know that he's going to be around post MCX and I like the fact that he mentions both the relationship (which I know will probably polarize some people) and their individual journeys will be moved forward very significantly. I think the thing that made me dislike Romy so much was that it never moved passed that angst-ridden stage, and whenever it did somebody always wrote it straight back there, normally within a couple of issues. So this is very good news.
Plus, proof that Gambit is going to be in Uncanny #494, and kicking ass:

From the pages of Wizard 198 comes this little tidbit about X-Men Legacy.
X-Men: Legacy - Star-crossed lovers Rogue and Gambit won't be finding their happy destiny come February as this 12-issue miniseries by Mike Carey and Scott Eaton finds the pair mixing it up with a number of mutant menaces. And as the series rolls out, expect mysteries and revelations hidden in the minds of five of the X-Men's most powerful allies and foes and major plans for the Master of Magnetism.
Sounds interesting, if it's accurate, and at least we might know where Gambit ends up post MC. Also, it's got Carey writing it, which is a godsend, since he actually seems to like the characters that he's working with.

27/12/07: Rumour/News Update
Thanks to Lord Evan for this very interesting rumour/news update:
According to a report from CBR. Actor Bailey Chase is in negotiations to play Remy LeBeau in Wolverine: Origins.
I'm not familiar with the actor, but he has a solid resume and hes definitely an adult actor, which is what irked me about his possible appearances in X3.
But seriously, its about fucking time. And wether Bailey gets it or not, it means Gambit is in the movie, and it means they officially have my 9-10 bucks.
Bailey Chase IMDB:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0003082/
He looks a bit like Viggo Mortensen of LOTR fame, which I like
Upon further examination of the source article, it does not expressly state that it is Gambit, but is a character under the studio alias of "Mr. Yellow"
and Chase descibes him as:
"He's about 30 years old, a charming southern guy on the surface but he's got some ulterior motives going on underneath. By the end of the film, he's probably not going to be such a nice guy."
And now I need to clean my pants.

Not much info given away again this week during X-Position Week 29 over at CBR but we got a little snippet from Nick Lowe:
Q: "It seems that many fans are already forgetting the fact that Gambit tipped Cable off in 'X-Men' #200 by telling him, 'It's one minute before dawn.' Depending on what Cable wants the baby for -- and what the baby actually stands for (hope or doom) -- Gambit could quite possibly have helped save the mutant race. While Gambit's loyalties have been questionable in the past, by the end of MC will we get all of our answers about Gambit's motives? Will he be in a series post-MC?
A: Keep your eye on Gambit. All isn't as it seems. I can't say too much about this, but I think you'll be happy to see where it goes.

X-Position Week 28, an interesting article from Mike Carey, again talking about X-Men #205. Here is the interesting Gambit bit:
On the topic of intense moments, Manolinator wanted to know more about a confrontation that occurred between a certain Cajun and Canuck. "Wolverine gutted Gambit -- was that a fatal blow?" And why is Gambit so loyal to Sinister? That's still not clear to me."
It's not fatal in these circumstances. Gambit's resilient, Sinister is a genius biologist and Exodus has powerful telekinesis. Those things probably add up to Gambit surviving the blow. Is Gambit loyal to Sinister? You tell me. We've yet to hear from his own mouth why he came back to Sinister and why he's stayed.

Thanks to Stefbug for this:
Ok, on the Marvel news page they have an article called meet the Marauders, featuring a barebones discription of each of them, a bit from Marauders maniac—and Marvel marketing guru—Jim McCann (Fanboy) and a bit from Mike Carey (Xpert). Here's what they had to say about Gambit:
GAMBIT
The Barebones: Heir to the New Orleans Thieves Guild and a mutant with the ability to release an object's kinetic energy, Remy LeBeau came to Sinister in his younger years for help controlling his power and ended up owing the manipulative scientist a favor, which he repaid by gathering the Marauders. Remy went on to become the X-Man known as Gambit, repenting for his dark past and moving forward romantically with his teammate, Rogue. Gambit left the X-Men after a falling out with Rogue to serve the villainous Apocalypse, but has since shed that alliance to rejoin Sinister for reasons not yet known.
The Fanboy: "Remy, Remy, Remy…first you lead the Marauders to the tunnels to kill the Morlocks, then you spend time atoning, but now you're back? Something tells me there's a lot more than meets the eye. But I have to admit, I have a soft spot in my heart for the Ragin' Cajun!"
The Xpert: "Is it too much of a cliché to call him a wild card? Gambit has a spectacular offensive power, but in a way his scariest weapon is his mind. Infinitely resourceful, perversely ingenious, sly and unreadable—you do not want to back him into a corner. Of course, those same qualities make him a less-than-perfect member of a team. Many years in the X-Men didn't succeed in domesticating Remy or taking away his crazy edge, it's an open question whether Sinister can do the trick."

Thanks to Deadoro for this find:
Howdie people.
Just wanted to relay an interesting article from Wizard where Mike Carey talks in length about Gambit and what's to come in X-Men. It is from a while back but still an interesting read. Here's an exert:
There's a line in the script where Mystique is talking about symmetry between the character’s lives, and it really struck me because we're following Gambit's story on one hand and Rogue's on the other. What can you tell us about your plans for the two of them as a couple?
Again, it's going to be a long time before we actually get a Rogue/Gambit scene, because although you know where Rogue ends up at the end of #200, she's almost missing in action right into the crossover. She's in a position where she's not interacting. She's not able to interact with most of the rest of the cast. She will get that scene with Gambit, and I think that it'll be very powerful when it comes. But I think that we're probably talking #207 by the time that we get there, and in the meantime we will have seen a bit more of where Gambit is at now and what's going on his mind. Some questions are going to be opened up about him and what he's been doing in between dropping out of the X-Men at the end of Milligan's run and now. In a way, there will be a kind of—how I can put this?—payoff, an emotional payoff for Rogue/Gambit fans which they've been keenly anticipating for the last year or so. It's going to be quite poignant, but you're going to have to wait until early 2008 for that.

We've now got the cover for X-Men #205 in colour. If you thought is was striking as a sketch then this will blow your mind.
Also, some interesting news about Sinister and the Marauders:
"Will we learn what Sinister's agenda is this time? He always seems to have a mysterious agenda that doesn't really seem 'mysterious,' just annoying. I'd like to know what his reasons are for being so psycho... or is he just a Joker-level nutjob?"
We'll learn a lot about what he's up to, yes, and there will be some real surprises with him and his Marauders, too. Things are not what they appear to be...maybe. But I've already said too much.

Over on CBR the most recent X-Position article focuses on Messiah CompleX, since it comes out this week. What is most interesting is that they have a page of coloured art from #205 which seems to carry on from the page where Gambit is facing off with Wolverine that I found previously (see 7 posts below). Here is the page:
It looks like they're having a serious go at each other, and Wolvie might just be winning (look at the left panel at the bottom, where either we've got another trench death or Gambit just got stabbed.)

It's also nice to see that Gambit is going to be within the first 6 pages and we get to see more of Mystique's motives revealed.
Of particular interest is this line from Scott: "If there was one thing that defined us, it was the fact that we kept the door wide open. And that's why Nathan died. Because we gave too many people too many second chances."
The fact that it's in reference to Cable's death and second chances looks like he could be aiming it at a certain Cajun.

Thanks to Aceshigh for this:
Okay so over at IGN they're doing a 13 part look at messiah complex, which leads up to the relase of the one shot on october 31st. It's on day 2 as of this first post. On day one there was a particularly interesting mention of Gambit and how he came to be in this:
With little apprehension about returning Marvel's mutants to a story style they made infamous, we had to ask if "Messiah" actually evolved from a single-title plot. "We knew going in. The inciting incident of this event is simply too big to contain in one title," clarified Alonso. "The process was remarkable organic. Going in, the only thing we weren't sure about was whether X-Factor would have a role in the story. We didn't want them to be redundant. And they're not."
Nick Lowe agreed about the organic process. "When we went into the retreat, the story grew and characters fell into roles. We talked about what the main characters would do if this happened and let them lead the way. One of the biggest surprises was who stepped into the spotlight. We never expected Rictor to take a big role, but it just made sense for his character. Same with Caliban. And Gambit. We knew we wanted Gambit to be in this, but his role grew more than I ever thought it would. He just became necessary to the story in ways that I couldn't have predicted."
Day two mainly talks of how the crossover came to be and what it'll be like. To sum up:
1. There are three camps: SAVE the baby, EXPLOIT the baby, and KILL the baby.
2. It'll be 90's style, with charecter mix and match and recap pages.

Ok, the newest CBR X-Position is out and not only is there lots more news of Messiah CompleX, but there is also hinting about Gambit, from the current X-Men Editior no less:
Gil Van Sligtenhorst wrote in because she was curious about a character's chance at redemption. "Is it possible that at some point in the future Gambit could return to the X-Men? Understanding that both he and Rogue have a lot of their own individual stories to work through, is it also possible at some point down the line that they could be reunited?"
NL: Sorry, Gil, that would give away too much of his role in the story.

Thanks again to Stryker for this:
Following his appearance in Wizard Issue 192 (see below), Gambit's part in the article has now been expanded.
Here's the scan of the original article:
The text reads:
The Marauders
The X-Men have found themselves under seige of late, not only from familier foes but once-trusted friends as well. The Marauders combine the worst of both worlds, with former team-mates like Gambit (pictured), Mystique and Sunfire standing shoulder to shoulder with enemies Exodus, Random and Scalphunter.
The extended article (which can be found here) now includes a quote from Mike Carey:
"Gambit is going back to his roots in the worst possible way," laments X-Men writer Mike Carey. "Hanging with Sinister and the Marauders—it’s like ‘Mutant Massacre’ all over again, except this time he’s got a really twisted agenda that’s all his own.
29/09/07: News Update
Thanks to Stryker for this:
Gambit got mentioned a lot in Wizard this month (issue 193).
In the article Team X-Men (a discussion with the creators behind Messiah Complex) there is a little bit about the X-Men villains to watch out for (Magneo, Mystique, Gambit, The Purifiers, and Mr. Sinister).
Gambit's article is entered below
The Ragin' Cajun returned in X-Men #200 as a member of Mr. Sinister's Marauders lineup. As a former X-Man, it was surprising to see Gambit attack Cable, ultimately leading to Nathan Grey's death, but it looks like there may be more to the story than meets the eye. Cable noted Gambit's Louisiana accent sounded forced during their confrontation, so it's possible this isn't the Gambit we all know and love - in more ways than one.
Also as part of the movers & shakers (what's hot now column) there was this:
Gambit The ragin cajun has returned with X-Men #200. His first appearance in Uncanny X-Men #266 is really heating up, but the Gambit issue to watch out for these days in Uncanny X-Men Annual #14, a brief cameo that predates his first appearance.
In addition Gambit's first appearance (UXM 266) made it's way to the Top 5 over 5 list (hot back issues over 5 years old). "Meanwhile, Gambit's explosive return in X-Men charges up fans' excitement meter, bringing his first appearance in Uncanny #266 into the fold". The book reached number 3 on the list. Current market value $50 (Near Mint condition).

Well it's talking about the Marauders and shows Gambit on the cover. Plus it mentions the X-Men roster update, which might show some of the changes that are coming post Messiah Complex.

The X-Men Must Sacrifice Two Of Their Own
Preview pages for #203 with an article on marvel.com. They make Remy out to be the leader of the Maurarders and if they've decided to include him by name over the rest of them, it makes me think that he'll be more heavily involved in the story this issue.
He may fight the majority of the X, but I think he'll be the one to do the damage to Iceman and Cannonball. They're the three hyped charecters according to this artice so it seems most likely to me, with Mystique also being possible due to the....er........ liason with Bobby. Either way I believe Gambit will be important in this issue in a big way. Call it a hunch.

Thanks once again to Aceshigh for this teasing tidbit of news, and to Deadoro for asking the question:
X-Position Week 13
Good read. They mention gambit a ways down.....
That's twelve questions and twelve answers – don't say I never did anything for you, Helios. And on the topic of characters with complicated histories, Deadoro asked, “Can you give us any clues about how Gambit will be treated after ‘Messiah CompleX' is finished? Hero? Villain? Leader?”
All I know is that Gambit's in league with some pretty bad dudes and dudettes.
More taunting of us. However the best part is a kickass pencils messiah compleX art piece (see below and click to see it larger). What can I say, villian or no, the man always looks good.

X-Men #202 comes out 22/08/07 and there is finally some news about it. Thanks to Aceshigh for this:
THE STORY:
The Xavier Academy is under siege, and the full, appalling scale of the Marauders' plans is finally becoming clear. Now Iceman and Cannonball have to stay ahead of the pursuit long enough to mount a counter-attack - and to deprive their enemies of the one precious resource that could be the key to both victory and survival. FEATURING ENDANGERED SPECIES CHAPTER 9 - Can the ”Black Womb” facility answer any riddles surrounding Beast?

THERE. finally a 202 preview! also have confirmation that Gambit will be in 202 playing a fairly important role, but not nearly as much as he was in 200.

X-Men Panel Report
Wizard World hits Chi-Town. Discussion of Messiah Complex and other related events. Theres a small mention of Gambit, small enough to fit it all here:
Quote:
Next, a fan asks about the future of the Ragin' Cajun himself, Gambit. Asking if any big changes are in store for him, Quesada quips, "Yes, he will now be throwing business cards instead." While on the topic of mutant heartbreakers, a fan asks the panel what they think of the Emma Frost/Cyclops relationship. Quesada answers that he loves it personally, because it represents a change, and change, afterall, is what makes the comics world go 'round.
Moving back to "Messiah CompleX," a fan asks the panel what we should be on the lookout for, to which Quesada mysteriously answers "Cable is on the rise," inciting whispers from the crowd. "Wait, isn't he dead?" the crowd asks themselves. Very sly, Joe, very sly.
It seems they're taking it for granted now that G will be a big player, and they think everyone else knows it as well, so they're making jokes. pretty funny ones too. i added a lot that didn't directly include him for one reason-they reference him. Cable on the rise has to do with Gambit directly, seeing as hes the one who killed him. and change does too, as Gambit has gone through some interesting changes of late. stay tuned
Further news from Wizard World Chicago on the Cup o' Joe Panel:
Quote:
Switching to X-Men, the question was asked of just who should be watched closely in the upcoming "Messiah CompleX" event. "Gambit," said Cebulski quite mysteriously.

Thanks to Aceshigh for this:
I'm not sure if Gambit will be an X-man after this, maybe that means way later, because.....
Q: Any plans for Gambit to return to the X-Men?
A: There are plans for Gambit in the X-Universe but not to re-join the X-Men.
Q: Solo series for X-men other than Wolverine?
A: Yes.

06/08/07: Rumour Update:
Thanks to Lord Evan once again for this:
Alll right, after a great drought of anything significant being said I finally have some valuable information courtesy of X-position.
- Rumors are that two Marauders who changed sides will be X-men again in the future. Since Lady M and Mystique are totally dag nasty evil, and somehow I doubt Sunfire has any issues with killing, Gambit and Karima seem to be the logical conclusion. When asked, they responded "Some of the marauders are not what they seem"
-Gambits motivations will be resolved in both 204 and Messiah Complex
-Mike Carey is confirmed to still be writing X-men post Messiah
-However, the X-men may no longer exist after the events of Messiah
-There are still plans for the Hellfire Club

Thanks to Lord Evan for this:
Okay, update folks. There are confirmed to be at least two Gambit episodes of the new animated series (Wolverine and the X-Men).
How do I know this? Well, I got to ask Stephen Blum (Wolverine) himself at Otakon anime convention!
He was very friendly about it and says that the new series is one of the best things he's worked on in a while, it's extremely well written.
