History Page 6

Not long after this Joseph, who was revealed to be a clone of Magneto, died defeating Magneto and saving the world. In the wake of his funeral several of the X-Men, including Remy, were kidnapped to another dimension where they became embroiled in a battle between Juggernaut and Trion. The matter was eventually resolved but in the process Remy accidentally injured Marrow badly, due to the different laws of physics and the fact that their powers were acting in unpredictable ways.

Eventually the X-Men were sent back to their own dimension. Unfortunately it was several years in the past and several light-years away on the Skrull home world, which had become a training camp for Skrull spies. These Skrull mutants were learning to pretend to be Earth superheroes, and several pitched battles ensued between them. All of this was for nothing however as Galactus arrived to destroy the Skrull world.

Remy had at this time grown increasingly worried about the critically injured Marrow and he managed to get her to a Skrull hospital, where she underwent intensive therapy within a regeneration tank. Not only did this save her life but it also gave her control over her powers, giving her the ability to look beautiful and normal. This had long been an obsession and because of this Marrow was incredibly grateful to Remy, despite the fact that it had been him that injured her in the first place.

It was even implied that she had a crush on him and every time he tried to confess to her his role in her people's death she would make a comment about how much she was thankful to him. This would cause him falter and eventually not tell her since he could not bear to shatter her illusions regarding him.

Remy went back to New Orleans after this, called in by his father, to find that the Thieves Guild had been attacked by the Pig and that a young mutant boy, Shirow Ishihara, had been kidnapped. Shirow, who emitted the same gas that was used on the Crew A.S.K.E.W scientists, and his sister had fled from the Tokyo Thieves Guild and claimed sanctuary in New Orleans.

Remy tracked the boy, using the sample of gas that he had retained from before, but was unable to prevent Shirow, Zoe, who had gone to rescue her brother, and himself from being captured by the Mengo brothers. After watching Remy beaten by the Mengos, who wanted revenge for their earlier humiliation at his hands, Zoe eventually managed to break free.

She released Remy, who confronted the Pig and goaded him into a careless fight by reminding him of their past, and the fact that he was the one who took his eye all those years ago. Winning the fight he used the remaining gas on the Pig, ordering him to walk off a cliff, and finally claimed revenge for his cousin’s death.

Remy headed back to the mansion for a while at this point, and a training accident with Marrow revealed the green energy woman to the X-Men. Marrow accidentally stabbed Remy in the chest during training, however the bone did not hurt him and when he removed it the wound was completely gone.

Under threat of a psi-scan by Xavier he underwent several tests by Moira McTaggart, tests which the green energy being saw as a breach of her and Remy’s agreement. She took him to Indiana, where he was eventually able to unearth the truth about his parasite. She was in fact Mary Purcell, a mutant girl who had seemingly died when she spontaneously combusted at a gas station.

She hadn’t died however and had instead mutated into a pure energy form. After trying to possess Magneto in Antarctica, unsuccessfully, she instead bonded with Remy, intending to create a new life form with him. This ‘baby’ would have ultimately cost them both their lives had the X-Men not intervened and tried to separate them. Because of the close bond between Remy and Mary however they were both weak and in danger of dying, and in an attempt to save her Remy destroyed the device that was working to separate them. Mary seems to have been destroyed with it.

There was a lot of tension in the X-Men at this point, however not all of it was caused by Remy’s return to the fold, in fact the majority of it was due to Professor Xavier beginning to show signs of extreme paranoia. Because of this paranoia Xavier began to push the teams harder, working them past the point of exhaustion and pain to prepare them for an unknown and unspecified threat.

Remy rebelled against this and left the mansion after a blazing argument with Xavier, only to break back into the mansion after the rest of the X-Men were disbanded to find out what was wrong with him.

He found out that Xavier had found evidence that one of the X-Men was a traitor but was unable to work out which one and so had begun pushing them, and eventually disbanded them, in order to single out the threat. Remembering that there was a device in Sinister’s possession that could help Remy decided to procure it from the scientist.

To do this he tried to enlist the help of Grey Crow to find Sinister’s laboratory, however it was revealed that his old friend had been cloned and in that process had had a genetic failsafe implanted that would kill him if he tried to betray his master. The only member of the Marauders that had never been cloned, and so wouldn’t have any trouble revealing the location of the laboratory was Sabretooth.

Reluctantly he sought Sabretooth out, only to find him dying of adamantium withdrawal, and in exchange for his help Remy agreed to find a source of adamantium. This came from a minor villain called the Constrictor and while relieving him of his adamantium coils Remy also ran across Daredevil, with whom he helped both a dying criminal and a corrupt judge.

Upon getting to Sinister’s laboratory he bargained with the scientist, exchanging some of Courier’s genetic material for the device. He double-crossed the scientist however, by having Courier destroy the material once they were both a distance away from the laboratory with the device.

The device was used in an elaborate psychodrama set up by Xavier with the help of Jean Grey and Cable, which involved the X-Men being pushed to the limits both physically and emotionally to reveal who the traitor was. One by one the X-Men were eliminated and removed from the psychodrama, something which the other participants saw as their death. Remy was one of the last two to be eliminated, suggesting that Xavier was either very distrustful of him or found it very difficult to read him. Rogue however was eliminated before Remy, and this lead to a very emotional scene in which Remy believed that he held a dying Rogue in his arms and confessed his love to her once again.

Because of the device Xavier was able to prove that ‘Wolverine’, who had been ‘killed’ only a few hours before, was actually a Skrull impostor. It was later revealed that Apocalypse had kidnapped Wolverine and converted him to his Horseman Death, which led the X-Men on another mission to stop Apocalypse’s bid for power and rescue Wolverine.

After the fight against Apocalypse, Remy was asked by his father to retrieve a jewel called the Momentary Princess, which was endowed with unique powers and data. The jewel appeared in Leipzig, Germany for a few minutes every 27/29 years and during the Second World War Jean-Luc had both thwarted an attempt by Wolfgang Von Strucker to aquire the jewel and failed to aquire it himself.

Remy headed to Germany, where he found that he was not the only one after the jewel. Both Sekmeht Conoway and Fenris Von Strucker’s twins Andreas and Andrea, were also looking to acquire it, although for completely different reasons. The Von Struckers both also had a grudge to settle with Remy, revealed to be because at one point he had an affair with Andrea, something that Andreas did not approve of. In the end none of the parties acquired the jewel and it slipped back into the time stream.

It was later revealed that the Momentary Princess had been created by Witness in the distant future to contain information that would eventually be useful to Remy in his future.

Finding out that Spat, one of the bounty hunters who took him to his trial and used to be his friend, had not stopped de-aging and was in fact close to dying Remy worked with Sekmeht to acquire the Tomorrow Stone, which he used to cure her.

Returning to New Orleans his father and Tante Mattie it was revealed to Remy the reasons why the Guild had had such an interest in him from his infancy, why Le Diable Blanc was such a big part of Guild lore and why he had been made a part of their family so readily. They revealed that he was going to travel back to Victorian England and rescue them, during the Revelation of Deadlife ceremony. When Remy questioned this Jean-Luc showed him a photograph, taken in 1891, which showed both Remy and Courier in it, at the ages they were currently.

With the help of Sekmeht and the Mengo Brothers, Remy and Courier headed for Latveria and Dr Doom’s citadel to use the time portal that was present there. They successfully managed to travel to Victorian England with Sekmeht’s expertise and the Mengo Brothers’ muscle.
