History
Although this history is intended to be as comprehensive as possible it is possible that things have been missed. If you find any of these email me at gambitguilduk@yahoo.com and I will update the history.

Remy was born in New Orleans, where his unique red-on-black eyes caught the attention of the Antiquary, a powerful member of the New Orleans Thieves Guild, who dealt in the stealing and selling of children, considering each one to be a work of art.

The Guild Prophecies, with which the Antiquary was obsessed, mentioned that le Diable Blanc, who was said to have eyes such as Remy’s, would be the one to reunite the warring Thieves and Assassins Guilds and bring about heaven on earth and the return of the ‘Old Kingdom’ which the Guilds were said to have come from.

Consequently, he put pressure on the Thieves' Guild to kidnap Remy for him from the hospital where he had been abandoned, presumably because of his eyes. Because of the Antiquary’s position, Jean-Luc LeBeau, the Patriarch of the Guild, had no choice but to arrange the kidnapping as refusing would have meant a split within the Guild.

However, despite the fact that he knew the boy would be well cared for within the Velvet Ministry, the Antiquary’s personal collection, the thought of leaving a child with that ‘vile man’ deeply disturbed Jean-Luc. He arranged to have Remy removed from the Antiquary discretely, despite the fact that the rest of the Guild cursed the infant as an abomination. He also knew that angering the Antiquary, with all of his connections both inside and outside the Guild, could have had consequences, and had the child placed on the streets for his own safety.

Remy's first memories are probably those of growing on the streets, since he was taken from the hospital at too young an age to remember anything from that time. He was also presumably removed from the Antiquary’s care before he had formed any memories of his time in the Velvet Ministry as well, however he does seem to know what the Antiquary’s profession was and what being a part of his collection entails, although this is more likely to have come from just being a part of the Guild.

He was partially in the care of Fagan, the excommunicated offspring of a thief and an assassin, and his ‘mob’, a group of other orphans of the street; however most of what his early life was like is still unknown. What is known is that he learnt the art of thieving, often picking pockets and roof-combing, to survive, something which Jean-Luc watched from a distance. Its also known that in his time with Fagan he had a run in with a pack of vampires, leading him to have a strong dislike of graveyards, although the exact details of this have never been revealed.

At around 8 years old he was up on the rooftops when he saw a beautiful blond girl his age walking into a trap, and he hurried to help her. After taking out the two men he soon learned that this girl, Belladonna Boudreaux, didn’t need his help as she was the daughter of the Patriarch of the Assassin’s Guild and trained in the killing arts. They become childhood friends and would eventually fall in love with each other.

Not long after, it was orchestrated for him to pick Jean-Luc’s pocket, who, being the best thief in New Orleans, caught him and seemingly impressed by the boy’s skills arranged to have him adopted not only into the ranks of the Guild but into his own family as his son. It is unknown if Remy is at all suspicious of how he ended up with the Guild, however he is fairly intuitive and does know that much of his life within the Guild was manipulated including some of his involvement with Belladonna.

Much of his time within the Thieves Guild is unknown, but it is known that Remy gained his mastery in the art of thieving as well as many of his combat skills, such as his expertise with thrown objects and the use of a Bo, which appears to be Jean-Luc’s weapon of choice as well.

It is also still unknown how he came to find out about his mutation, and what the Guild’s reaction to it was, but added to his other natural skills and talent it aided him in becoming one of the most gifted of the Guild in both stealing and fighting.

Another thing that is known is that when he was 15 he also was partially responsible for the death of his younger cousin, Etienne, when he was appointed as registrar over his cousin's tilling, much as Henri his brother had been for him. The tilling is a rite of passage that marks a young thief's formal induction and consecration into the Guild if they succeed or, if they fail, their permanent expulsion.

Etienne was required to steal an ancient chalice from Candra, with Remy there to observe and not to interfere, but things went horribly wrong. They ended up being captured by Candra who was trialling some operatives from the Pig, a dealer in children with exceptional skills and talents, and sent to his training facility.

Even though they managed to escape the Pig's clutches, due to Remy using his kinetic charge ability and using playing cards as a weapon for the first time, Etienne was killed in the leap off a cliff into the sea and freedom. As the person who was meant to be watching out for his cousin, Remy clearly held himself responsible for his death, even though he did all he could to save him.

During the early years in the Guild his best friend and childhood sweetheart remained Belladonna, despite the rivalry between their families and the fact that Belladonna had been ordered to stay away from him. In order to arrange a lasting peace between the Assassins and the Thieves Jean-Luc arranged with Marius Boudreaux for Remy and Bella Donna to marry after their 18th birthdays.

At the age of 17 Remy had to earn his place in the Thieves Guild once again through the "Tracts of Passage”. To do so he had to steal "L'Etoile du Tricherie", the Cheating Star pendant, from the daughter of an infamous jewel thief and jewel thief in her own right, Genevieve Darceneaux. Accompanying him on this mission again as his sponsor was Henri.

After rescuing Genevieve from Sabretooth, who had been hired by Herzog, the rightful owner of the jewel, to reclaim it, he decided that in order to steal the pendant he would seduce her. It was his hope that this would drop her guard with him and make her more vulnerable and easier to steal the gem from, although Henri warned him about thinking of this as a game.

His plan worked, and after a few weeks he successfully stole the pendant from Genevieve after a spending the night with her, a night which he regarded as his last bit of freedom before his arranged marriage to Belladonna. He left Genevieve in the middle of the night, not realising that Sabretooth was waiting for his chance to kidnap her, and stopped for a croissant and coffee to celebrate on his way back to the hotel where he and Henri were staying. Unfortunately this gave Sabretooth all the time he needed to kidnap Henri as well, not only intending to get the jewel in ransom but also to see what was more important to Remy, his responsibilities to the Guild or to himself.

The ransom note that Sabretooth had left in the hotel room led him to Notre Dame where he found that the feral had them dangling at the end of ropes from the roof and was threatening to drop them both if Remy didn’t do as he said. In exchange for the pendant, he would allow Remy to save only one of them and as Sabretooth let go of the ropes Remy made the only choice he could and caught Henri. Genevieve fell however, and died in his arms, leaving him feeling responsible. Remy learnt a lesson that night, as his naivety cost him a lot.

Remy returned to New Orleans along with his brother after this and was married to Belladonna, more for the love between them than just for the sake of the peace between their respective Guilds. The desire for peace, however, was not shared by all and on the wedding day, after the ceremony, Remy was challenged to a duel by Belladonna's brother Julien, who was opposed to any peace between the Guilds. Remy outclassed Julien as a both a fighter and swordsman, and in defending his honour and the marriage the duel ended with Remy the winner and his brother-in-law dead.

Though it seemed everyone agreed that Remy fought in self defence, the Assassins demanded some form of penance from him and Jean-Luc decided that exile and excommunication were preferable to execution. He could do no less, needing to maintain the non-aggression pact that was currently in effect between the Guilds.

Remy accepted the judgement, although he felt hurt and betrayed by it, and left New Orleans as well as Belladonna, his wife of barely a day. It should be noted that he did not ask Belladonna to leave with him nor was there any indication that she tried to follow him on her own. She did, however, resent him later for leaving without taking her with him.
